Over the years, many of us have learned that Mary J. Blige pulls from her life experiences to write songs but rarely, if ever, have we gotten to see the legendary singer go through that process.

On April 28, Mary will be releasing her new album The Strength of a Woman, and she's also dropping a documentary that shows the making of the LP. Plus, she'll be talking about her impending divorce to her estranged husband Kendu Isaacs, and how the healing process helped to write this album.

"[Divorce] is not something I wanted to do, but I had no choice," said Mary in a trailer for the doc. "I'm not writing an album preaching to anyone about what they should do. I'm literally trying to heal myself through writing, singing, through some kind of way. Getting it out of my system."

The trailer also shows cameos by some of the people who worked on the album, including DJ Khaled, Jazmine Sullivan, Hit-Boy, Neo and Diddy, who also narrates the documentary.

The Making of Strength Of a Woman airs on VH1 at 11:00 p.m. EST on May 2, and you can watch the trailer above.
