Living in Michigan is awesome for a number of different reasons, one of them being the vast number of breweries all across the state. Michigan has ranked as one of the best states in the country for craft beer lovers, and here's five special brews you need to try right now!

Summer is here and that means backyard BBQ's hanging out on one of the 11,000 lakes our state has to offer, and drinking some of the best beer in the world. Travel all across the mitten and you'll be sure to find a brewery in almost every city. Here's five amazing craft breweries that you need to visit ASAP.

Its not officially Summer until you crack open your first Soft Parade of the year. Shorts is well know all across the state and almost every liquor store carries some type of Short's brew. Located in Bellaire, MI, the small Northern Michigan town is known for having one of the best breweries in the state, Short's Brewery. I recommend trying their Local's Light which is a smooth American Lager.

Oberon, Oberon, Oberon! The most iconic brew in Michigan in my opinion comes from Bell's Brewery located in Kalamazoo. Every year you know the weather is about to turn when the first batch of Oberon is released. If you're vising Kalamazoo, you have to visit Bell's. The classic Michigan brewery is home to great brews such as Two Hearted Ale, Best Brown Ale, Kalamazoo Stout, and so many more.

My personal favorite on the list not only because its located in one of the most beautiful cities in Michigan (Petoskey), but their beer selection is beyond amazing. From everything from IPA's to stouts, to my pick 'Deez Nuts', Beards has something for everyone. Plus their new location puts the brewery right by Bayfront Park and the stunning Little Traverse Bay.

Founders is a Grand Rapids staple. Visiting Grand Rapids and not having a brew at Founders is a sin! Not only does Founders have a great selection of seasonal beers, but their limited releases are special events that every Michigander looks forward to. I recommend their KBS brew which is a great imperial stout.

Kuhnhenn is a special brewery because of their attention to detail. Located in Warren, MI, this brewery is a short drive from Detroit and totally worth it. With a large selection of seasonal beer, there's always something new at Kuhnhenn. My personal favorites are the Simcoe Silly and the White Devil.

Before you lose your mind with all the tourist traffic in one of the busiest summer destinations in Michigan, visit North Peak and have a cold beer. Located in beautiful Traverse City, MI, North Peak has something for everyone. Not only is the building stunning, but so are the brews. Their GT Local Golden Ale is a beer to die for! I also highly recommend their Northern Light which is a great blonde ale.
