12 of the Best Hip-Hop Collab Projects of 2019 (So Far)
It takes a different type of vibe for two artists to come together and craft a full-length project, and sometimes the results are magical.
The collab project has seen some great alliances over years and also some failed attempts. Standout siamese releases include Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne, Drake and Future’s What a Time to Be Alive, Mos Def and Talib Kweli’s Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star and Method Man and Redman’s Blackout, to name a few.
Then, there are the ones fans were teased with but have yet to come to fruition, like the Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole joint project that has origins nearly a decade old and the Drake and Rick Ross album, which was initially believed to be titled Y.O.L.O.
2018 was filled with big-name joint projects including Jay-Z and Beyonce’s Everything Is Love, Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts, Future and Juice Wrld’s Wrld on Drugs and more.
The 2019 slate hasn’t featured as many big name releases as last year’s, but the field has been stacked with solid coupling efforts from names like Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, Murs and 9th Wonder and Ghostface Killah and Czarface. More could be in store, including teased releases from Trippie Redd and Playboi Carti, Young Thug and Juice Wrld and possibly another Drizzy and Hendrix LP.
With the year hitting its closing stretch, XXL picks out 12 of the best joint projects that have been released this year, so far.
