Common Performs At The White House And People Hate Him [Video]

Common was invited to the White House by the First Lady Michelle Obama for an evening of poetry and some Republicans weren't very happy.You can watch the performance below and for the "Haters", well Karl Rove went on Fox News and slammed Common calling him a "Thug" and said he had advocated violence against former President George Bush. Common Tweeted:

"So apparently Sarah Palin and Fox News doesn't like me."

White House spokesman Jay Carney defended the decision to invite him and said the reports about Common were being distorted.

Carney said:

"I would say that, while the president doesn't support the kind of lyrics that have been raised here, we do think that some of these reports distort what Common stands for, more broadly, in order to stoke controversy."

He also said that Fox News Channel just six months ago had described Common as a rap legend.

Carney said:

"One of the things the president appreciates, is the work Common has done with children, especially in Chicago, trying to get them to focus on poetry as opposed to some of the negative influences of life on the street."
