Listen. I love Batman as much as the next guy. Like many high school nerds with a chip on their shoulder, I argued passionately that the darkest Batman stories were his true self, not the goofy camp of the 1960s Adam West series. That being said, is anyone in worse need of a little levity than the Dark Knight? Batman’s gloomy personality finally reached a tipping point with Zack Snyder’s gun-happy take on the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As Jack Nicholson’s Joker said in the 1989 film, this town needs an enema.

So I am absolutely there for every bit of self-serious mockery levied at Batman’s history in The LEGO Batman Movie, and I cannot imagine a gag quite as funny as the movie’s brand new theme song (via Heroic Hollywood). Written and performed by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump  —  who, I must admit, has a pretty great Batman voice  —  the song pulls no punches when it comes to Batman’s pompous mythology. Here’s a few sample lines:

In the darknest night,
I make the bad guys fall.
There’s a million heroes,
BUT I’M THE BEST OF THEM ALL!
Who has the coolest gadgets? (BATMAN!)
Who has a tricked out ride? (BATMAN!)
Who does the sickest backflips? (BATMAN!)

The song also provides some very important background on Batman for those not familiar with the character. Did you know that Batman can choke hold a bear? That he never skips leg day? Or that he’s 100% not Bruce Wayne? There’s even a not-so-subtle dig at President Trump in the song, with Batman boasting that he’s a billionaire who “always pays his taxes.” Looks like we’ve got our “Everything Is Awesome” of 2017.

Here’s the full plot synopsis for The LEGO Batman Movie:

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble — LEGO Batman — stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

The LEGO Batman Movie Bat-swings into Bat-theaters on February 10, 2017.
