I remember exactly where I was the day Halloween died for me.

October 31st, 2010 in Rochester Hills, MI.

It was on this date that my brother and his wife returned to my parent's house after only being gone for 10 minutes and told me that they were turned away by 5 houses in a row all saying the same thing: "You're TOO OLD to be trick or treating. This is for kids!"

Is it though? Because in my opinion, going out Trick or Treating with your friends was something you did for fun and something completely harmless, and now you're depriving that of young adults.

The reason I write this is because I think enough time has passed and I'm just about fed up with this "too old" nonsense. Personally, I say once you own a home, it's your responsibility to provide candy for whoever shows up on your doorstep. This isn't just ranting I've got some theories to go along with my claim. The first one is for people who live in apartments...

Nobody Trick or Treats At Apartments

For the last 4 years, I've lived in an apartment, and for four years I've set candy out on my patio. Not one piece. Let me say that again...not ONE PIECE of candy was taken.

So what do you think happened to that candy? That's right, I had to eat it all (poor me). But the point is if I'm too old to go out to houses, but nobody will take the candy I set out, then couldn't I have just saved money and gone Trick or Treating? That to me makes more sense.

Staying Out of Trouble

You can complain and moan all you want about people being "too old," but I ask you, would you rather have a bunch of young adults like my brother go around and harmlessly collect candy, or go to a party, drink and drive while your and other kids are out?

That may be a bit of a jump or worst-case scenario, but there are WAY worse things young adults could be doing than dressing up and getting candy.

You're Ruining Halloween

Halloween is supposed to be the one time of the year when we don't give an F and we can dress up and cosplay and finally be kids again.

Being an adult blows sometimes, most of the time, and if you're gonna be a stick in the mud and try to ruin the ONE DAY where we can all just be kids again just because YOU think Halloween should be a certain way, well, you've ruined the holiday.

What's next? No more presents on Christmas? No more BBQ on the 4th of July? Want us to just ruin every holiday while we're at it?

This year if a young adult comes to your door, thank them for keeping the kids of the neighborhood safe by joining them for a night of candy and fun. If not, then "Trick or Treat, smell my feet."

This Battle Creek House Wins Halloween

It's a treat for the entire neighborhood. Tom Wood is playing clips from Halloween movies on the side of his family's house in Battle Creek
