Meet Michigan’s Wealthiest Resident Who Has A Value of $33 Billion
Back in August 2024, we talked about the richest person in Ohio and how this guy is just plain filthy stinking rich. The man’s name is Les Wexner. He’s the man who purchased Victoria’s Secret for $1 million in 1982 and by the time he sold the majority of his steak in the company, he made $525 million.
I guess that’s an easy way to eventually make your way to a $6 billion fortune, but it turns out someone in Michigan has topped him in terms of personal estimated worth. In fact, he doesn’t just top him, he absolutely dwarfs him.
When looking at the richest person in the state, it’s actually pretty funny considering that he also owns the Cleveland Cavaliers. That’s right Dan Gilbert is Michigan’s richest man, but it’s not from owning a basketball team.
How did Daniel Gilbert get to be the richest man in Michigan?
Dan Gilbert has an estimated worth of $32.6 billion according to Forbes. I think cofounding what would eventually become Quicken Loans, the world’s largest mortgage lender, had a lot to do with it. Besides that, as someone who purchased shoes off of StockX, I didn’t realize that I was also contributing to his wealth as he cofounded the online sneaker sale platform.
The amount of money this guy has is absolutely ridiculous, and he remains, quite possibly Michigan’s most wealthy resident of all time. I just find it funny that he also owns one of Ohio's biggest teams. Someone who is a die-hard Michigan/Ohio rivalry believer may think there's a conflict of interest there, but I doubt he would purposely sabotage his own team...right?
