Buyer Beware! Broccoli Sold at Michigan Walmart Recalled for Listeria

If you planned to start the new year with a healthier diet, you may want to hold off on your broccoli intake as a recent recall has affected certain batches sold at Michigan Walmart stores due to potential listeria contamination.

According to the FDA, Braga Fresh is warning customers about a batch of washed and ready-to-eat 12oz Marketside Broccoli Florets with a best-if-used-by date of Dec 10, 2024.

There's no need to panic if you recently picked up a bag of broccoli that's already past its best-if-used-by date of Dec 10. However, you could be at risk if you bought a bag of the 12oz Marketside Broccoli Florets and tossed it in the freezer.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Thankfully, no illnesses have been linked to the possibly tainted product.

The specific product involved, which is no longer in stores, is the 12oz bag of Marketside Broccoli Florets sold at Walmart. You can identify it by the UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag, the Best If Used By Date of Dec 10, 2024, and the Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on the front.

If you currently have the affected broccoli at home, it's best to throw it away or return it to the store for a refund.
