Genesee County residents are eagerly awaiting the opening of a new Mexican restaurant on Lapeer Road in Davison.

In October 2023, rumors began circulating on social media about changes taking place at the former Big Boy on Lapeer Road in Davison, which had closed after decades of business.

People first noticed that the windows were completely covered with paper, blocking anyone from seeing inside, and there was a giant dumpster out back that helped keep speculation alive about what was happening.

At the time, residents had no idea what was going to take the place of their beloved Big Boy.

El Cozumel Mexican Grill, located in Burton at Courtland Center Mall, will be opening a second location in Davison in the former Big Boy building.

While there are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Genesee County, this one is truly a favorite among locals who rave about its food, service, and atmosphere.

MLive reported earlier this year that the restaurant would be opening this spring, but it's still unclear if that's actually going to happen.

From the outside, it sure looks like they're getting close.
