Flint’s had its fair share of problems over the years, from water crises to economic struggles, but now there’s another issue that doesn’t seem to be taken seriously.

For years, we’ve told you about the city’s ongoing battle with bed bugs. It’s a battle no one wants to face, and for Flint residents, it’s only getting worse.

According to Orkin, Flint ranks as the 16th worst city in the United States for bed bugs. That’s higher than major cities like Atlanta, St. Louis, Seattle, and Miami. Flint actually moved up several spots on Orkin’s list of the worst bed bug cities in America, which shows the problem is getting worse, not better.

Flint isn’t the only Michigan city facing a bed bug crisis. Detroit jumped three spots to number three on Orkin’s list, Grand Rapids climbed seven spots to number seven, and Lansing now sits at number 48.

Having four cities on a list like this is definitely nothing to brag about. It just goes to show how serious the bed bug problem is here in Michigan, and how fast it's spreading.

This year’s list is based on where Orkin had to do the most bed bug treatments between May 15, 2024, and May 14, 2025. That includes homes, apartments, and even businesses.

My wife works in healthcare, and our biggest fear is her bringing home bed bugs and starting an infestation. To stay ahead of it, we actually have a company come out regularly to treat our house with a preventative solution. It’s not cheap, but it gives us peace of mind.

Honestly, it’s a lot cheaper than what it would cost to get rid of those little suckers once they take over.
