Expert Says a ‘Superbug’ is the Biggest Health Threat in Michigan
In general, most Americans take some sort of pill or medicine every day to counter heart issues, antidepression and other consistent medical issues. Many also do their best to help their overall health by taking vitamins and other supplements. But when it comes to infections, you have likely taken any number of antibiotics.

According to a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, there has been a recent surge in resistance to antibiotics.
What is a 'Superbug'? Michigan Doctor Warns of Threat
An overuse of antibiotics will, over time, lower the ability for your immune system, and these 'Superbugs' can wreak havoc on Michiganders who have had a more than average regimen of antibiotics.
Doctor Anita Shallal said in a recent interview that 'A superbug would be considered any kind of a bacteria that has displayed resistance to multiple classes of antibiotics.'

Who has a Higher Risk of Contracting a 'Superbug'?
Even though 'superbugs' are not common in everyday settings like schools or at work, the doctor continued by saying, 'They’re more common in hospitalized patients and clinics. However, they’ve been associated with repeat antibiotic exposure, so someone might have recurrent urinary tract infections and have repeat exposures to antibiotics, and eventually the bacteria is able to kind of outsmart the antibiotic and develop resistance mechanisms to the antibiotics. And the concern there would be that if a patient develops a drug-resistant infection, you know, there are many antibiotics, but not all antibiotics work for every bacteria.'
