While Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, and other retailers have made a big deal about closing on Thanksgiving Day, there are several that will be open. Here's our list.

Things have changed since 2020. Four years ago, Walmart began closing its doors on Thanksgiving Day in order to promote safety and as a way of thanking employees for their hard work during the pandemic. That practice proved to be a winner and Walmart continues to close its doors each year on Turkey Day.

Not Everyone Celebrates Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving

Not everyone observes Thanksgiving due to religious or cultural reasons. November 28, 2024, is just another day.

This year, our family is celebrating Turkey Day a couple of weeks early. This weekend - November 16 & 17 - is the only weekend this month when we can get several of our kids together. So Saturday will be the day we set aside to give thanks and celebrate the fact that many of us can be together to enjoy turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy - made with cornstarch.

Stores That Are Open on Thanksgiving Day

The list below outlines major retailers that plan to be open on Thanksgiving. Some retailers, however, may have limited holiday hours. While most locations will be open, staff shortages may cause some individual stores to close. And we should point out that only Walgreens locations that are open 24 hours are planning to remain open on Thanksgiving.
