Rich Spicer is a beloved media teacher in Northern Michigan. He recently received a well-deserved and unexpected gift — a free van to replace the aging clunker he’d been driving. The generous gesture came from a real estate developer who noticed Spicer’s old van struggling to keep up.

Why the Van Was a Much-Needed Gift

When I think of hard-working people, Rich Spicer is at the top of the list. I've known him for decades and have long admired his work ethic. He's a seasoned radio host who serves the Cadillac, Michigan community and enjoys teaching the next generation of broadcasters at the Wexford-Missaukee ISD Career Tech Center, where he shares his passion for radio and TV with aspiring media professionals.

The Man Behind the Generous Gesture

Robb Munger, a real estate developer in the Cadillac area, saw the aging van Spicer was driving and grew concerned about his safety, knowing it could break down at any moment. He told 9 and 10 News that he made up his mind to replace Spicer's old clunker.

“I thought it was so rusted out, it could break down in the middle of nowhere, and so I started worrying about him. So many people rely on Rich — his students, his family,” Munger said.

How the Surprise Came Together

Munger says he spent weeks shopping for a new vehicle and planning the surprise. Everything came together perfectly, and the TV station captured the heartwarming moment in this video.

The Power of Kindness in Michigan Communities

Needless to say, Spicer is thrilled to have a reliable vehicle he doesn't have to pour money into. He expressed his gratitude and shared a life lesson he often passes on to his students.

“I’ve always thought that kindness ripples out, and I guess I’m the recipient of that today.”
