Watch: Riders Left Dangling as Cedar Point’s New Coaster Gets Stuck Opening Weekend
Well, that didn’t take long. Cedar Point’s brand-new coaster got stuck on opening weekend, leaving riders dangling mid-air and onlookers reaching for their phones.
What Is Siren’s Curse?
Siren’s Curse is the park’s latest thrill ride, billed as the tallest, fastest, and longest “tilt” coaster in America. And on day one, it lived up to its name.
Crowds packed the Midway for a shot at the ride, with wait times stretching well over two hours. But for one group of riders, the thrills didn’t stop at the top. They got a scare they didn’t quite sign up for.
What Happened During the Breakdown?
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the ride’s signature feature is a 160-foot-tall lift hill that tilts the coaster train downward at a steep angle, offering a clear view of the track, and the ground below. That’s exactly where the train came to a stop, leaving riders suspended for nearly 10 minutes before crews stepped in.
As you'd expect, video of the moment hit TikTok almost immediately. You can check it out below.
Cedar Point's Response:
Park spokesman Tony Clark said the coaster “experienced a delay” that left riders paused vertically at the signature tilt.
“The coaster’s safety system performed as designed, the ride was restarted, and guests continued their ride,” Clark said. “Siren’s Curse reopened shortly after and all guests exited the ride safely.”
No evacuation was needed, and the ride resumed normal operation after technicians gave it the green light.
