In late October of last year, Kevin Gates was sentenced to 180 days in jail for battery after kicking a female fan while performing at a show at Rumors Nightclub in Lakeland, Fla.

Now, XXL has confirmed with Polk County Jail, where Gates is being held, that he will be released on March 24.

Back when he was sentenced, his wife and boss mane business partner Dreka Gates criticized the sentence, saying the prosecutors wanted to give him 60 days but the judge gave him 180 instead. “She claims she fainted, but yet she and her friend stayed at the club at the front of the stage even after this incident,” Dreka wrote about 19-year-old Miranda Dixon, the girl who was kicked, in a caption for a video showing an alternate angle of the incident. “She also acquired a civil attorney early on…what does that tell you? She also touched him FIRST (more than once) without his consent but yet he was the one sentenced to jail today for the same crime. She and her friend also had very conflicting stories and were tripped up in many lies today in the courtroom.”

2016 was a huge year for Gates, with his debut album Islah getting released in late January and certified platinum by September. The LP spawned gigantic hits for the Baton Rouge rapper, including "2 Phones" and "Really Really," but it felt like even more songs, such as "Hard For" and "Time for That," could have been pushed as huge singles as well.

Four months after releasing Islah, Gates was already ready to unleash more music, so he dropped Murder for Hire 2, which included "Off Da Meter," a song his fans had been anticipating for a long time.

With his impending release from jail, there's sure to be new music from Gates right around the corner, as his team has been teasing big things to come in 2017. In fact, you can hear a snippet of new music he previewed back in August below.
