Today (Jan. 15), is the birthday of famed civil rights icon, Martin Luther King, Jr. 2018 marks the 50th year since he was assassinated, and people all over the U.S. are celebrating MLK Day.

Of course, rappers are taking to social media to pay homage to King. "Happy Martin Luther King day," Travis Scott wrote on Twitter. "He inspired us to stand for what we believe. He put his life on the line for us , not just African Americans but so every human race can have a voice. !!! Thank u Mr. King!"

Lil Wayne posted one of his favorite MLK quotes on his timeline. “'Everyone has the POWER FOR GREATNESS, not for fame but greatness, because greatness is determined by service' -MLK Let’s All be Great in 2018! #ThankYouMLK50," it reads.

Others went deeper. Common started a thread about his feelings for the slain icon. "Dear Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I Thank GOD for your life, your heart, your dignity, your sacrifice, your spirit, your charm, your dreams + your light that you used to Better all mankind," he typed on Twitter. "You helped the world to see we are All GODs Children connected by the thread of humanity...I have a picture of you in my room so I can have a vision to aspire to. I listen to your words because I recognize this world is in chaos + they bring me a peace only An Angel could bring."
