Lupe Fiasco, Plies and More React to President Trump’s Remark on Immigrants From “S!*thole Countries”
Lupe Fiasco and Plies are having none of President Trump's most recent controversial comments. This time, the controversy comes from a question the president made during a meeting in the Oval Office on Thursday (Jan. 11).
According to The Washington Post's sources briefed on the meeting, President Trump grew "frustrated" with lawmakers during the course of the meeting saw said lawmakers discussing Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal.
When lawmakers mentioned those countries, Trump responded by asking, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” From there, the president asked by the U.S. couldn't work to let in more immigrants from Norway instead. Yikes.
Predictably, word of President Trump's stance on the matter and the words he chose to describe Haiti, El Salvador and other African countries caused many to return to a sentiment many never abandoned in the first place: The president of the United States is a racist.
While he didn't use those words, Plies didn't pull any punches when tweeting about Trump. "The President Of This Country Is A Sick Man!!!!!!!" he wrote on Twitter Thursday night.
For his part, Lupe simply asked the same question posited by many before him. "Why is this fucking guy still president??!! Jesus Christ he ain’t shit...WTF," the Chicago rapper posted on Twitter.
On Friday morning (Jan. 12), Trump used his Twitter account to defend himself, saying he didn't make the remarks mentioned above. "Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country," he wrote. "Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"
While it's true we have to say "alleged" remarks when mentioning Trump's supposed behind-the-scenes comments, they do feel pretty on-brand.
