Marion “Suge” Knight has hired a new attorney. According to the LA Times, the former Death Row Records mogul changed counsel on Monday (Sept. 11) as his defense attorney against the against accusations that he criminally threatened Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray.

Dominique E. Baños will replace Matthew Fletcher. It safeguards against a potential conflict of interest; Fletcher also briefly represented Knight in Knight's ongoing murder case.

Prosecutors filed a motion that stated they’d gathered evidence of possible witness tampering, bribery and obstruction of justice against Fletcher in the murder case. An independent inquiry was requested to determine whether or not his representing Knight was a conflict of interest.

The Times reports: "According to the motion filed by prosecutors, Fletcher had conversations with Knight and two others that showed the group understood 'they were going to assist the defendant in procuring witnesses for his defense, which included payments for fabricated testimony.' Fletcher denied wrongdoing at the time, telling The Times that prosecutors had taken his words out of context."

Knight is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 3 in the criminal threats case.
