Tay-K has been sentenced for his role in a 2016 murder.

On Tuesday (July 23), according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's reporter Deanna Boyd, the "The Race" rapper was sentenced to 55 years in prison for the 2016 murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. He was also hit with a $10,000 fine for the killing. Additionally, Boyd reports that the jury sentenced him to 30 years in prison for one count of aggravated robbery and an additional two 13-year sentences for two other counts of the crime. The two 13-year sentences come with $3,000 fines. The sentences will run concurrently.

This news arrives days after Tay-K was found guilty of murder last Friday (July 19).

When his capital murder trial began on July 16, the 19-year-old admitted that he was involved in the robbery, which included several other people, but did not coordinate Walker's death. Tay, who was born Taymor Mcintyre, pleaded not guilty to capital murder and a separate count of aggravated robbery. He pleaded guilty to two other counts of aggravated robbery.

A big part of the guilty verdict was based on determining whether or not Tay-K should have expected Walker's death while setting up the robbery. Jeff Kearney, who works as one of Tay-K's three defense attorneys for the case, says that while the teenage rapper had agreed to participate in the robbery, he couldn't have predicted that his associate, Latharian Merritt, “was going to go in and intentionally kill for no reason, intentionally kill Ethan Walker.” The jury apparently didn't accept that and they returned with a guilty verdict.

The incident that led to this murder case was the July 2016 robbery and subsequent murder of Walker. Not long after the incident happened, Tay-K was arrested and charged with Walker's death. Over six months after he was placed on house arrest, Tay-K broke off his ankle monitor and made a run for it.

After he was eventually apprehended in New Jersey on June 30, 2017, he dropped the video for his song "The Race" on YouTube. Shortly thereafter, he was charged with another murder. Police believe he also killed photographer Mark Saldivar at a Chick-Fil-A murder in San Antonio, Texas after first attempting to steal his photography equipment.
