Tory Lanez Believes Rap Is in a Horrible Place
Tory Lanez is not happy with the current state of rap.
On Tuesday (Nov. 19), Tory appeared on New York radio station Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning to promote his new Chixtape 5 project. As they were discussing the amount of work and money that went into creating a project that samples as many songs as his. Tory pointed toward the current state of rap to accentuate his point that Chixtape 5 was needed.
“You gotta look at rap right now," Tory told hosts Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez. "Rap is in a horrible place.”
He went on to explain that he feels everything is becoming monotonous.
“I just feel like rap has gotten to a repetitive place," he said. "There’s this one sound right now that sounds like it’s out of an automated box and it’s just like, let’s just go on it, put a bunch of Auto-Tune on it, hood nigga beat, hood nigga song—it’s good to go! When everybody starts to sound the same, and all of our music starts to [sound the same.] And I keep hearing the same drum, the same kick, and the same snare, and the same hi-hats and the same patterns, it gets to a point where I start saying, ‘Yo, this shit’s in a bad place right now.'”
Tory credited Young Thug with being "responsible for 75 percent of the rap style that’s going on right now” and referenced his own recent beef with Roddy Ricch as he explained that every single artist takes inspiration from other people.
