Last night (Jan. 15), Variety reported Travis Scott talked to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick about his performance at the 2019 Super Bowl. Now, Hot 97 radio personality Ebro Darden and Kaepernick's girlfriend, Ebro's fellow Hot 97 colleague Nessa, have both spoken out about the report.

According to the publication, Scott and Kaepernick discussed the performance before Scott officially signed on for the halftime show, which will also feature Maroon 5 and Big Boi. During the conversation, Scott made it clear that he believed everyone has the right to make a statement the way they want to and that the NFL's $500,000 donation to non-profit social-justice organization Dream Corps would do a lot of good.

While the publication's sources say Scott and Kaepernick "emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding," Kaepernick apparently still doesn't agree the Astroworld rapper's move.

Although Variety doesn't mention anything about Kaepernick approving Scott's performance, Darden seems to believe the outlet is sending the wrong message regarding the conversation. "Kap did not approve this bullshit! Get the fuck outta here....," Ebro said in a tweet he posted last night. "Don’t be fooled. The NFL & others are using you @trvisxx."

Nessa co-signed Ebro's tweet by quote-tweeting it with an affirmation that Kaepernick doesn't support Scott's decision to perform at the Super Bowl. The quarterback himself seemingly asserted his disapproval by retweeting both radio personalities, who point out that no type of "understanding" transpired during the phone call conversation.

Every bit of controversy surrounding Scott's performance stems from the belief that the NFL has made a systemic effort to blacklist Kaepernick from the league. If you recall, Kaepernick controversially knelt before the playing of the National Anthem before every NFL game he played in during the 2016 NFL season. It was a move thought to promote Black Lives Matter. Kaepernick hasn't been in the league since.

Prior to Travis Scott's announcement about the 2019 Super Bowl Halftime show, Billboard reported that Scott would only agree to perform alongside Maroon 5 and Big Boi if the NFL made a $500,000 donation to Dream Corps.

News of Scott and Kaepernick's discussion comes a few days after one fan started a petition to urge Maroon 5 to cancel their performance. That same fan adjusted their request to ask if the band, Scott and Big Boi take a knee during the show.
