Troy Ave sparked controversy last week when he proclaimed himself as the “new Tupac” during an interview on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. The Brooklyn rapper is comparing his chaotic life - both personally and legally - to the late rapper 2Pac, who was posthumously inducted into the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

On Friday (April 7), Troy Ave went on his social media accounts to announce that his next mixtape will be called Dope Boy Troy (Vol. 2): NuPac. The collection will drop on Friday (April 14).

Troy Ave, who says he’s suffering from post traumatic stress, feels that the media has misconstrued his comments and now he’s going to set the record straight on his next project. He wrote on his Instagram account:

A few media outlets with hidden agendas against us real ones done twisted what i said, and thru lemons in hopes of covering & preventing my true message from gettin thru to the masses! Well ya Dope Boy Troy gon twist those into Lemonade & Serve it Cold! The Hate can't effect me cause I'm fearless, dedicated, faithful & righteous! Never Wait out the storm Y'all! Go Dance in The Rain💯 With that said on Friday April 14th Ima drop this [Street Album] titled: Dope Boy Troy (vol.2) #NuPac! I'm airing everybody tha fuk out! ..... These Ain't No Photoshopped Pictures, This My Real Life."

However, folks on Twitter are not feeling Troy Ave's 2Pac comparison.

"Who the f--- is Troy Ave & why does he think he compares to Tupac??? "Nupac"??? The disrespect," tweeted one fan. Another person wrote, "Troy Average is not the "Nupac" instead he's Zero Pac."

Despite the social media backlash, Troy Ave remains undeterred. "We take ya lemons and make lemonade" I'm Not F---in Playin Out here & I don't give a F---!" he tweeted.
