We Finally Know How ‘True’ ‘Captain Phillips’ and ‘Spotlight’ Are, Thanks to New Infographic
One of the biggest questions a director or a screenwriter asks him or herself before starting work on any kind of “true story” movie is: how much of the truth do I keep, how much do I toss, and how much do I tweak a little bit? Real life, as you may know, isn’t like the movies, and sometimes stuff just… happens. While it may be full of good stories, life isn’t subject to neat plot arcs, which can be pretty irritating when you’re trying to fit it into a two-hour movie. Which is why, sometimes, moviemakers like to fudge things a little bit. Have you ever been to the movies and asked yourself, I wonder if it actually happened this way? Now, with a handy new infographic, we can know for sure.
New ‘Rogue One’ TV Spot: Krennic Has ‘Immeasurable Powah’ and K-2SO is More Helpful Than He Thinks
Disney aired The Wonderful World of Disney Holiday Celebration last night, and along with it came a special sneak peek at the new Star Wars movie Rogue One. Introduced by an extremely pleased Disney CEO Bob Iger, the TV spot has a lot of footage we’ve already seen in trailers before, but also a few bits we haven’t. And for those of you itching to get tickets, according to the Star Wars official Twitter account they’ll be available on Monday.
Newt Scamander’s Past Will Come Back to Haunt Him in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them made no secret of the fact that though it takes place an ocean and almost a century away, it’s still deeply tied to the Harry Potter universe. Johnny Depp plays the dark wizard Grindelwald, the Voldemort before Voldemort, in this movie and its sequels, and director David Yates is already casting for Dumbledore for the sequel, who we know used to be Grindelwald’s friend. Another character with close ties to Newt Scamander will appear in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, and bring the magizoologist’s past back with them. (Be warned: SPOILERS for Fantastic Beasts are contained in the following paragraphs.)
Latest ‘Rogue One’ Images Feature New Locations, New Characters, and a Lot More Vader
One of the reasons we’re so excited for Rogue One is because it’ll introduce us to so much more of the Star Wars galaxy than we’ve seen before. The Force Awakens did this too, but there’s something different about Rogue One. It’s a part of the story we’ve all heard before, but it’ll show us loads of new worlds and characters that we’ve never met.
‘Donnie Darko’ Is Heading Back to Theaters With a New 4K Restoration
Donnie Darko, perhaps the cult-iest of cult movies, made barely a ripple when it premiered in theaters in 2001, but since then has become a cult classic phenomenon, an essential film for disenfranchised teens and time travel aficionados alike. And, like, many cult classics these days, it’s getting a theatrical re-release, this time in glorious 4K resolution.

When you’re alone on a giant spaceship sailing through the outer limits, how do you pass the time? Is it by swimming in the ship’s luxurious pool, only to have the power go out and the gravity turn off and get caught in a weightless maelstrom while you drown, stuck in a giant water balloon bubble with no one to call for help? On ...
Forest Whitaker Joining ‘LAbyrinth,’ That Movie About Biggie and Tupac Starring Johnny Depp
Remember that movie about the murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur that Johnny Depp is in, for some reason? Depp is playing a detective who tries (and, obviously, fails) to crack both cases, and Forest Whitaker has just joined the cast as Depp’s journalist buddy who is also interested to find out what actually happened to the hip hop icons.
‘RED’ Short Film Teaser: Cate Blanchett Is a Spider-Woman Who Eats Men After She Has Sex With Them
Del Kathryn Barton’s popularity amongst the experimental and high-art circles of Australia hasn’t yet made waves in the U.S. quite yet, but her next project might allow her to do just that. The trailer for her new experimental short film RED debuted online last week, and if you’re a fan of either Cate Blanchett or spiders, Barton’s this is for you. (If you’re a fan of Cate Blanchett and spiders, book your ticket to Adelaide right now immediately.)
Emma Watson Just Released the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Teaser Poster, and It’s a Throwback
When the news that Disney was making a live-action Beauty and the Beast movie dropped, we all wondered one thing: how close was this version sticking to the original? Would the costumes look the same? Would the inanimate object characters be changed at all? Would there still be songs? From what we’ve seen, it looks like everything in this version, will look the same, just more realistic. Emma Watson’s Belle still has her blue-and-white outfit, the Beast looks similar, if not a little more uncanny-valley, and Lumiere and Cogsworth look more or less like themselves, just with a few tweaks.
Darth Vader Is All Over the New ‘Rogue One’ International Trailer
As the Rogue One trailers keep rolling out, they get increasingly more Darth Vader-y. In the first few, we had that shot of the back of his helmet. Then, in the next couple, a new shot of him talking to Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Krennic. Now, the most recent international trailer actually starts off with his “Imperial March” theme and includes a short soundbite of that chilling breathing noise.
Johnny Depp Has Been Confirmed as Grindelwald for the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel, So That’s Happening
The rumors are true: not only will Johnny Depp have a role in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, as well as being cast in the sequel, the mystery character he’s playing is none other than Gellert Grindelwald, Albus Dumbledore’s friend/crush-turned-sworn-enemy back when both wizards were young and full of ambition.
Yes, Albus Dumbledore Will Appear in the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel, Which Is Now Casting
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is already looking at four more sequels, despite the fact that the first isn’t even out in theaters yet. The folks Warner Bros. seem pretty sure they have a hit on their hands. While we don’t know a whole lot about the second one, other than it’s set in Paris and will star Johnny Depp in some capacity, we’ve heard as of today that the movie is casting, and looking for one very exciting role: Albus Dumbledore. You might’ve heard of him.
