The recent spike in COVID-19 cases is hitting the youth harder than expected with a pretty big increase in the last few weeks.

Here I am worried about giving the virus to my parents and my nieces and nephews are the ones that are getting infected. I wasn't expecting that one.

COVID-19 infections have surged in younger populations. Age group 0 to 9 had seen the highest percentage jump of any age group, with a 230 percent increase in cast rates since Feb. 19, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Children and teens aged 10-19 followed closely. It had a 227 percent increase, since Feb. 19, due to 384 additional cases. That case tally was more than any other age group’s numbers.

This has a lot to do with school and sports. All we can do is follow the same social distancing guidelines until we can get everyone vaccinated. Which should only be a matter of time. As of Monday Michigan adults, 16 yrs and older can receive a COVID-19 vaccine which should put a huge dent in this pandemic.

Just try to be more careful with this rise. We're so close to putting this pandemic behind us we've just gotta remember to stay focused.
