A Flint man was found dead in a Houston jail cell hours after being detained for public intoxication.

The Houston Police Department are looking into what caused a 33-year-old to die in his jail cell on Sunday morning. According to a Houston Police Department spokesperson the individual walked into a convenience store on Houston's west side, and was intoxicated and being disruptive to the clerk. The clerk called the police and the man was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest.

Officers stated that the man continued to be disruptive while being booked into jail. Officers also state the man was punching walls and was examined by medical staff before being booked into jail. Jailers put the man in an isolated cell and checked on him every 15 minutes and according to reports he was found unresponsive in his jail cell at 9:25 am. An autopsy is scheduled to be preformed to determine cause of death and the District Attorney is currently investigating the death.
