In an interview with the Associated Press, Ice Cube talked about the re-release of his classic album,1992's Death Certificate, the release of his latest video "Good Cop, Bad Cop," one of three new tracks featured on the re-releases of the project. Of course, he had a very pointed opinion on the continued police violence against the Black community, namely, that nothing has changed.

"Police have a philosophy, they have a theory, they have a way of doing stuff, it's win at all costs," Cube, born O'Shea Jackson, said in the interview with AP. "Win now, apologize later, that's the model. By having that way of thinking and that philosophy, it's all about 'Us against Them,' that's the mentality."

The interview comes during a week where we've seen a jury acquit the officer who killed Philando Castile. Castile, a gun owner, was shot at point blank range, with his girlfriend and her four year-old child in the car. Since the acquittal, more video has been released, further infuriating those who call for an end to police terrorism and the recognition of the humanity of black folks. But simultaneously, the video has filled them with hopelessness because there seems to be no end to the physical and psychological terror against black Americans.

Cube says he's all too familiar with the feeling. And while N.W.A.'s 1988 rallying cry, "F--- The Police" was more a "revenge fantasy" "Good Cop, Bad Cop" calls on good cops to speak and act against corrupt police officers.

“They’re our last line of defense against this onslaught of abuse,” he said.
