The music world was stunned when L.A. Reid was unceremoniously stepped down from his post as the head of Epic Records. With acts like Future, 21 Savage, Rick Ross and Yo Gotti calling the label home, folks wondered why, exactly he’d choose to leave. Now we might be getting some answers.

According to a new report by The New York Post, Reid was ousted from the Sony Music imprint after one of his co-workers complained to the label about “several instances” of sexual harassment.

In a letter the accuser wrote to Sony Music’s General Counsel Julie Swidler, the accuser claimed the 60-year-old Reid, who’s a married man, made “inappropriate physical advances” toward her at a Christmas party last December. The letter also claimed Reid asked her to lay down with him and give him a hug while they were in a hotel on a business trip and that Reid made comments about the clothes she wore and described her as looking “fine.” The Post is withholding the name of the alleged victim.

These claims were not addressed in Sony’s original statement, which read simply, “L.A. Reid will be leaving the company.” Now that we know about the claims, though, we understand why Reid’s departure makes sense.

Before being ousted, Reid was still riding a ton of momentum, with DJ Khaled’s Chance The Rapper, Quavo and Justin Bieber-assisted single “I’m the One” recently debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Chart.

Success aside, it appears Sony is, understandably, taking this matter very seriously. According to one of The Post‘s sources familiar with the situation, Sony is “not allowing a culture like that” live in their company that won’t change “no matter how much a person brings to the bottom line.”

Reid is reportedly talking to Warner Music Group’s Len Blavatnik about a position running the Warner Bros. Record label.
