Lapeer Schools Have Decided On A New Mascot

When Lapeer West and East announced they would be merging next year, everyone immediately wondered which parts of the schools would stay and which would go.  The will to make a clean start with the merger definitely showed with the announcement that the new mascot would be the 'Lapeer Lightning'.

Most people thought that the Griffin would be the next mascot because it's a mix of the two schools current mascots.  The 'Lightning' choice was explained in a letter to residents by Lapeer Superintendent, Matt Wandrie in a post on their website.

Lightning symbolizes many things, even more profound than speed and power. It symbolizes illumination, creative energy, innovation and transformation — all characteristics of a dynamic organization.

More than 4,000 votes were counted when deciding the new mascot.  Not everything will be new though, as the primary colors of both schools are represented.
