I'm sick of hearing parents complain about the changes in the way that math is being taught to our children, and finally Raj Shah is offering up a good explanation why.

Most parents basic argument is based around the fact that the new math isn't the way that they learned.  Another popular complaint is that the math takes too long.

Raj shoots down both of those arguments fairly quickly in the video by pointing out the fact that most people grew up not liking math.  They feel like they are not good at math, and that's because they were never actually learning math.

Learning to do math as quickly as possible is NOT the best way to learn math.  Learning the concepts of what each number place means, and figuring out different ways to use that number expands the thought process.

IT'S LONGER BECAUSE YOU'RE LEARNING MORE!

Think about how low the kids in the US score in math compared to other countries around the world.  Do you still think the old way is the best?

Maybe you need a sarcastic video comparison.  If so, this golf commercial is the best way that I can describe the way I look at parents when they complain about "New Math".

OK, maybe that was uncalled for . . . how bout one more?
