On March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace, better known to the world as The Notorious B.I.G., was gunned down in Los Angeles as he was leaving a music industry party. While Biggie Smalls' murder still remains a mystery, the legacy and impact of the late Brooklyn MC continues to live on even after 19 years of death.

Considered one of the greatest rappers to ever touch a mic and also a top five pick on everyone's favorite MC list , Biggie’s skill, delivery and flow always separated him from other MCs. After releasing his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, the black Frank White became a dominant and influential force in hip-hop. Along with having a successful solo career in the mid-'90s, Biggie led his collective of childhood friends known as Junior M.A.F.I.A. to a certified gold album with the release of the group's Conspiracy album. Unfortunately, as Biggie geared up to release his sophomore double-disc album Life After Death, the Brooklyn MC was shot and killed in a drive-by. 16 days after his murder, Biggie's second LP reached the No. 1 spot on the U.S. album charts and was later certified diamond in sales.

The legacy of Biggie Smalls still lives on today with a lot of the younger MCs in the game praising Biggie for his inspiration and talent. Today, XXL looks back at the impact of Biggie Smalls and rounds up the eight rarest on-camera freestyles of the late Brooklyn MC. Check out the clip above.
