After 100 Years, This Detroit Area Restaurant is Closing

Red Hots Coney Island which is located in Highland Park is getting ready to close up after serving the community for 100 years.

This Saturday, June 26 Red Hots Coney Island will officially celebrate their 100th anniversary with a party starting at 11 am.

Now, before you start to blame this closing on Gov. Whitmer or the pandemic, let me just tell you, they're closing on their own terms.

An emotional video from the owners’ daughter, Christina Coden was posted on Facebook explaining her parents' decision to close Red Hots.

July 24th, that with a heavy heart looks like it will be the last day for Red Hots. It clearly was a tough decision and clearly, something deliberated by all members of our family. My dad's been there 53 years and my mom's been there 21 or 22 and they're not getting any younger.
We want to make sure everyone understands that this wasn't an easy decision. You guys are like family. It's incredible that we've been around for 100 years, it's amazing and it's because of you guys.

According to MLive, the building hadn't been remodeled since 1968 but that changed in 2015 when Food Network’s “American Diner Revival” gave the restaurant a much-needed renovation.

It sucks for people that live in that community but at least they are going out with a bang this Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. Their customers can enjoy all the Coney dogs they can eat along with chips and soda for $10.

Their doors will officially close on July 24.
