Petition to Free ASAP Rocky From Jail Launches, Receives Over 65,000 Signatures In Matter of Hours

Not only are rappers standing behind A$AP Rocky as he continues his legal battle in Stockholm, Sweden, but fans are stepping up and showing their support for the embattled rapper as well.

On Tuesday (July 9), a group called #JusticeForRocky launched Change.org petition to urge Sweden official to free the rapper from a Swedish jail. The #JusticeForRocky petition details Rocky’s legal plight in Sweden following a physical altercation he and his crew had with a local man on June 30.

As you may know, on Monday (July 8), Sweden's Supreme Court rejected Rocky's appeal for release so now he has to stay in jail for two weeks while police investigate the case. According to the petition, the Harlem rapper has been prohibited to talk to his legal counsel while in custody, which is against his human rights. The petition, which has a goal of 75,000 signatures, has been signed over 65,000 times at press time.

The petition hits the internet as rumors about Rocky's treatment behind bars—which at least one report has called inhumane—have surfaced. Speaking on the matter, Chace Infinite, who operates as Rocky's manager, described some of the purported circumstances the rapper has faced.

“Upon being detained, Rocky was denied his request to counsel which is in violation of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which Sweden is a signatory,” writes Infinite. “Everyone has the same rights to be treated fairly upon detainment and should be given fair and equal access to such rights.”

“The conditions of the facility are horrific,” Infinite continues. “Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions.”

Infinite adds that Rocky’s trial on his assault case will begin from the middle to end of August. However, he feels that Rocky and his associates possibly being locked up until August “is a punishment before the fact, with no due process.”
