Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration is going to allow more fans into Comerica Park after bumping up the capacity limit to 20% earlier today. This new bump from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will allow for 8,200 fans to enter the stadium for the Tigers home opener on April 1.

Prior to the new guidelines, we had told you that only 1,000 fans were going to be allowed into Commerica Park to watch a Detroit Tigers game. That was extremely restrictive because it would have only allowed 2.4% of Comerica Park's official capacity which is 41,083.

Even though their only allowing 20% into the park, this is still huge for the Tigers.

Chris Granger, Group President, Sports & Entertainment, Ilitch Holdings, Inc:

Tigers baseball is back, and we couldn’t be more excited to begin welcoming our great fans to Comerica Park again. Safety is our top priority, and we have developed and invested in a plan that allows us to confidently provide fans a safe and entertaining experience. We’ve missed our fans greatly and can’t wait to celebrate the start of the season with them when the first pitch is thrown on Opening Day in Detroit.

As you would expect there will be restrictions put in place under these new guidelines. Fans will be required to wear a facemask but neck gaiters, bandanas and masks with halves will not be allowed. Also, fans will be seated in pods with at least six feet of social distancing between them.

Tickets for the Tigers' home opener go on sale Thursday, March 25.
