Detroit’s Greektown Casino Changing Its Name Starting in May
Detroit's Greektown Casino-Hotel will be no longer starting on May 1, 2022. The casino itself isn't going away, just the name. The casino will now be part of a national brand.
Greektown Casino-Hotel will be changing its name to Hollywood Casino. According to The Detroit News, its operator Penn National Gaming announced Monday, promising a rebranding that will accompany a $30 million renovation of the hotel and other upgrades to the popular venue.
It's going to be kind of strange having the casino under a new name. I mean, it's been Greektown Casino since they first opened their doors 22 years ago.

John Drake, general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown:
Becoming Hollywood Casino at Greektown will offer our guests the best of both worlds. We're keeping all of the unique, neighborhood charm that has defined Greektown since we opened our doors, while adding several new amenities that come with being a part of Penn National’s flagship brand family.
Personally, I think the rebranding along with renovations will be good for Detroit. I know a lot of people don't like change but change is good especially when it's much needed. The renovations include a new cocktails bar and a redesign of all 400 rooms and suites. See, change is good. It's unclear exactly when the upgrades will be complete but more than likely in the coming months.
The casino also will launch a new cashless, cardless feature, called mywallet, within its rewards app, mychoice. The new feature will let guests connect to slot machines and table games with their phone. However, traditional physical cards will still be available.
Hollywood Casino at Greektown will celebrate the rebranding with some special events on May 19 and May 21st.
