Meijer has drug drop off kiosks in all of their Michigan Supercenters so customers can safely dispose of expired medications.

The program started as an answer to multiple DEA reports of misused medicine. Reports show that millions of Americans have expired medications in their house that can become a problem if they get into the wrong hands.

That is the motivation behind the new drug drop off program from Meijer. Pharmacy personal told stories of people wanting to know the correct way to get rid of old prescriptions, but having to wait for a designated day or try to do it themselves.

The drop off kiosks will be in the pharmacy section of all Michigan Meijer stores, and will solve the problem for many people. Anyone can drop unused prescriptions into the kiosk without talking to anyone. If they do have questions though, a pharmacy employee will be there to help them.

Hopefully this will also help to curb the problem of prescription drugs getting into our environment. Many reports have shown that Great Lakes fish have traces of antidepressants and other prescription medications in them.

The kiosks are available for use now in all 241 midwest Meijer Supercenters.
