Smoke could be seen for hours on Tuesday night from a fire at a recycling center in Flint. According to ABC 12, a fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. at the Averill Refuse and Recycling Center on South Averill. Firefighters were initially unable to access the fire because of concerns their trucks would sink into the soft ground. They were able to access the fire from a nearby property owned by Consumers Energy. ABC 12 says it took several hours to get the fire contained and smoke could be seen for miles. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
