Flint Northwestern’s Ebony Harvey Win Open House Scholarship

Flint's own Ebony Harvey wins Open House Scholarship for her hard work in the classroom and in several sports.  Ebony Harvey just graduated from Flint Northwestern and will be attending college at Siena Heights University in Adrian. 

Ebony Harvey won the first scholarship from Amazing Tents & Chairs who will supply tents, chairs, and tables for the graduation party later this summer.  Amazing Tents & Chairs wanted to award a inner city youth in Flint for their hard work.  Students had to submit a 250 word essay through their school counselor about their future plans.

Despite excelling in many sports, Harvey decided to play basketball in college at Siena Heights University in Adrian.

She announced her decision at a press conference on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.

Amazing Tents & Chairs will now reward Harvey with an open house scholarship.

The local business will sponsor Harvey's graduation party on August 4 with free tents, chairs, and tables.

"We give this to students that are doing well in academics and athletics combined," said DeVante Powell, the company's advertising manager. "We're geared towards inner city youth and the packages are worth around $300."

Harvey is the first recipient of the scholarship. In the summer of 2013, Amazing Tents & Chairs will be giving out two annual scholarships to its winners.
