Flint Schools Announcing $40M for Renovations and New Building

It's not often $40 million dollars becomes available for upgrades at Flint and Genesee County, MI community schools.

So, when it does, the community takes notice.

Flint Community Schools receives grant money for improvements.

Thanks to a $14M grant from the Mott Foundation and $26M from the federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Program, Flint Schools will see improvements by 2025, according to ABC12.

This type of investment hasn't happened in years.

How will Flint Schools spend the money?

Holmes and Brownell STEM Academies will each see renovations inside and out.

On the district's Facebook page, the announcement notes:

This incredible opportunity means state-of-the-art renovations for our campus, enhancing the learning experience for over 600 pre-K through 8th-grade students. It's not just a facelift; it's about creating a future-ready, innovative learning environment for our young scholars.

One new building will be constructed, the first in many years for the district.

ABC12 reports it will be called The Cube -- a 5,000 square foot space for adult education learning, community use, recreation and more.

What will the renovations and new construction look like?

Updates to the property will include new sports facilities in addition to better traffic flow.

The Cube will sit between the two buildings near the early childhood building at Brownell.

It's sure to see a lot of use.
