Flint teen party flyer of MLK's face on it sparks controversy and Dr. Bernice King reacts.  The flyer was advertising a dance party in Flint  titled, 'Freedom 2 Twerk.'  After an uproar, the party has been canceled.

The flyer manipulated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s face on another man's body wearing a gold chain and throwing up the hand sign for 'westside.'  The party was suppose to take place the Social Network Banquet and Events Center on Corunna Road in Flint on January 18th.

Vic McEwen, owner of The Social Network, didn't know about the flyer until recently and quickly ended the rental agreement with Mid Michigan Teen Parties.  The flyer has circulated around the internet and reached Dr. King Jr.'s daughter. McEwen

According to MLive, Dr. Bernice King saw the flyer and was quoted saying the image was, "appalling." Flint's boxer Anthony Dirrell spoke out against the flyer saying,

"This is like, beyond terrible," he said. "If you really knew the history, you wouldn't do something like this."

I truly hope whoever is responsible for this flyer understands they made a grave mistake.  You should never associate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a teen dance party promoting twerking.  Dr. King Jr. did too much for the world to be placed in the mud with twerking and a teen party.
