Over the weekend Flint's Club 93.7 was able to speak with rising star J. Drew who is from Detroit and a name you should get to know.  J. Drew is currently sharing on television with his legendary gospel family on BET's 'The Sheards' reality show.  Along with the show, the Detroit native is readying the release of his debut project and celebrating signing to Pharrell's label, Star Trak.

J. Drew's legendary gospel family is comprised of Karen Clark Sheard, from The Clark Sisters, Bishop John Sheard, Pastor of a mega church in Detroit, and sister Kierra Sheard who is a successful gospel singer.  The family has had a lot of success in gospel but now J. Drew wants to do his thing in secular community.

While on the phone with J. Drew, LV, asked him about how the reality show 'The Sheards' came about.  J. Drew revealed a close friend that is from Detroit works for BET and was looking for a new show idea.

He wanted to get a younger group of guys that are normal people but yet their still Christians. He reached out to me and asked if I wanted to be apart and I went ahead and got the family involved.

J. Drew has broken away from the family mode of gospel to seek after a career in the entertainment business.  When asked about his families support, he spoke positive about it.

It's interesting and of course my family is very supportive. I haven't really had any pressure from family which is awesome.

The Detroit entertainer spoke on how signing to Pharrell's Star Trak label was humbling.

Big shout outs to Pharrell. I signed to him at an very young age, I was so humbled that he chose me out of all people he could have chosen.

Lastly, when asked about his debut project, JDS revealed his signing to Detroit record company, LiveTMG.  He even disclosed what we can expect from him as an artist.

My music is just deals with the subjects normal 22 year olds and teenagers go through. It will be song a lot of people can relate to.
