GM announced that Burton is the site of a new 1.1 Million square foot parts plant after an intense bidding war.

The official announcement was made Tuesday after Burton offered up a hefty tax incentive to GM on Monday.

The new plant will be built at the intersection of Genesee & Davison roads, and will replace the existing plant about five miles away. All of the employees will move over to the new building when it's completed, and there are expected to be some new hires as well.

The new plant will be placed extremely close to For-Mar Nature Preserve, and environmental groups will definitely be keeping a close eye on any environmental changes that a new GM plant may bring.

In the end it's always good to see major companies investing in Genesee County, but we can't help but think that there may be some other motivation for GM.

Sure they got a great tax break, and Genesee County is full of skilled parts workers . . . but I think the real motivation is pictured below.
