This Is This Holland Coffee Shop’s Last Week of Business
Believe it or not, this well-known coffee shop has been so successful, that it is closing. Confused? It makes more sense than you'd think.
Ferris Coffee & Nut Co
Ferris Coffee & Nut Co., the Grand Rapids-based nut and coffee roaster company known for its nuts, trail mixes, snacks, and coffee is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The company sells its coffee through coffee shops in Holland, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and retailers around the state. As part of the anniversary, the company has had some internal discussions about where it wants to take the company into its next chapter. As a result, one aspect of the company will be ending.
Ferris Coffee Closing Shops
In a post on Facebook, the company announced that Saturday, March 23rd it would be closing the doors on the "beloved" Holland cafe. While this location is closing, Ferris announced it will be keeping two Ferris locations open: the locations in Bridge St. Market in Grand Rapids and Capital City Market in Lansing. The company will be running special deals leading up to the final day.
Focusing on Retail
The closures come amidst Ferris restricting its business model. While the Holland location was profitable for Ferris, Ferris is looking to focus on its more profitable retail sales. In an interview with Crain's Grand Rapids, Ferris CEO Mark VanTongeren elaborated on why they decided to make this transition:
"We are growing pretty significantly and with that growth, we’ve had to say ‘no’ to certain areas of our business...operating coffee shop outposts is just not a primary initiative to support Ferris’ vision and growth trajectory moving forward.”
