Just heartbreaking. An 82-year-old Michigan man was simply trying to grab his mail when something went horribly wrong.

According to MLive, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the man was hit and killed Thursday afternoon in Georgetown Township near Hudsonville, which is on the west side of Michigan near Grand Rapids. Deputies say it happened just before 3 p.m. on Van Buren Street.

The 82-year-old had crossed the road to simply grab his mail when he was hit by a Jeep Wrangler being driven by a 16-year-old. That’s just brutal to even think about. Something as normal as walking to the mailbox turned tragic in a matter of seconds.

That’s the kind of story that really just sticks with you because it sounds like such an everyday thing. Walking to the mailbox is probably something this man had done thousands of times before.

16-Year-Old Driver Involved in Fatal Hudsonville Crash Not Hurt

Authorities say the 16-year-old driver and a 14-year-old passenger inside the Jeep were not injured in the crash.

Right now, investigators haven’t released much more information about what exactly led up to the accident. The crash is still under investigation.
