Michigan Airport Named One of the 10 Most Stressful in America

Going on vacation is supposed to be fun, right? You spend weeks or even months looking forward to your trip, making plans, booking your hotel - you know the drill.

Getting to your vacation destination, however, does not always go according to plan. When you are flying, there are plenty of things that can turn an exciting trip into a stressful one. Delays, cancellations, long security lines, crowded airports, and other travel headaches can definitely put a damper on your vacation before it even gets started.

Unless you have your own private plane, Michigan residents have a choice of roughly eighteen airports to fly from, including Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Marquette, and Freeland, to name a few.

One of the above locations is home to one of America's 10 most stressful airports. Chances are, your immediate thought was Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. If so, you are correct.

Rightway Parking analyzed major airports across the United States and ranked them based on the following five factors,

• Cancellation rate
• Delay rate
• Increase in delays since 2021
• Airport distance from the downtown area
• Travel time to the airport

Detroit Metro landed in the 8th spot on the list, and is the only Michigan airport named.

I think it is safe to say that most travelers account for travel time to an airport and time to check in, check baggage, etc.

What travelers can't really account for, though, are delays. Most of the time, you don't find out about those until you are already at the airport. It is what it is - there is always the possibility of a hiccup in your travel plans.

This is not to say that Detroit Metro is not a great airport to fly from. Years ago, when I still enjoyed flying, I traveled out of Detroit more than a few times and never had a bad experience.

My current fear of flying comes from claustrophobia - not airports or airplanes. I guess that is a story for another day. Here's a look at what other airports made the 10 most stressful list.
