Walmart Will Close All Michigan Stores for 24 Hours—Here’s Why
There’s one day of the year that many Michigan residents love to shop at their local retail stores in preparation for the upcoming holiday. However, once again for the 2024 season, you'll have to cross Walmart off your list of places to stop.
Walmart rarely closes its doors, but according to a press release, all Michigan stores will once again shut down for a single day. The move to close for an entire day is due to the company’s commitment to allowing employees time off to spend with their families.
For the fourth year in a row, Walmart will close its doors on Thanksgiving—a practice the company began in 2020. The move was initially made in response to the pandemic to show appreciation for employees and prioritize their safety. Since then, Walmart has continued the practice, making it an annual tradition to close its doors on Thanksgiving Day.
For decades, Walmart was the go-to place for last-minute items on Thanksgiving, but that's just not the case anymore. If Walmart is your only choice for holiday essentials, you better plan accordingly this year.

For many Michigan families, it's been a long-standing tradition to fill up on turkey and then hit the streets to shop for Christmas and take advantage of great deals. While you can still do that at some retail stores, including Meijer, you'll have to count Walmart out once again this year.
Target also announced that they will be closed on Thanksgiving.
