A photographer from Marquette recently snapped some breathtaking photos of the U.P.'s frozen wonderland, specifically Presque Isle Park.

Marquette's Shannon Kivi of 906 Images, whom we've featured several times has once again brought to light what Michigan's winter has to offer from a visual perspective.

Kivi stepped out into freezing temperatures on January 15, 2024, to capture Presque Isle Park after enduring 20+ foot waves and 50+ mph winds. The end result was nothing short of amazing.

What is Presque Isle Park?

Locally referred to as the 'Island,' Presque Isle Park is situated northwest of Marquette on an oval-shaped peninsula extending into Lake Superior.

Presque Isle Park is one of the most visited sites in Marquette County for good reason. With ease of access, this 323-acre forested peninsula extends into the water offering visitors unmatched views of Lake Superior. The park’s east end sits high atop sandstone cliffs carving in and out of the peninsula. Miles of hiking trails stretch through Presque Isle’s central forest, which boasts over 100 species of native plants amongst various other wildlife.

If you live in southern Michigan and have never taken the time to travel north to see what else our state offers, you're missing out on something special.

You may not love winter but you have to appreciate the beauty in these picture-perfect photos.
