Michiganders sure do like to booze it up and have a good time. However, there are some cities throughout the state that have a tendency to go a bit overboard with their alcohol consumption. That's exactly why they're on the list of the 10 drunkest cities in the state of Michigan.

If you were to ask me what the drunkest city in Michigan was, without hesitation, I would have said Grand Rapids. With over 40 breweries throughout the city, it seems like a no-brainer. However, Grand Rapids didn't even make this list.

Before we get to the 10 drunkest cities in the state of Michigan, let us explain how this list came to be in the first place. A while back, Road Snacks put this list together that was based on a number of factors.

They used the following criteria:

  • The number of bars and pubs per capita.
  • The number of wineries per capita.
  • The number of liquor stores per capita.
  • Each city’s drunk-related tweets within the past week.
  • Each city’s divorce rate.

Let's have a look at the 10 drunkest cities in Michigan.

#10 Bay City

The oldest bar in Bay City first opened its doors to drinkers back in 1892. Yeah, Bay City residents have had a lot of practice drinking for the past 131 years.

#9 Grand Haven

Grand Haven sits on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. The city is known for its sandy beaches and beer drinkers.

#8 Flint

Well, this is embarrassing. Come on Flint, we can do better.

#7 Escanaba

Sure, Escanaba only comes in at #7 overall on this list, but they're #1 in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. They out-stumble all other Yoopers.

#6 Kalamazoo

In 2017 The American Institute for Economic Research ranked Kalamazoo 20th among small metropolitan areas on its list of top college towns in the United States. A college town, that's really all we had to say.

#5 Benton Harbor

One thing Benton Harbor is known for is its many breweries which is one of the reasons they are the fifth drunkest city in the state.

#4 Muskegon

I've been to Muskegon once in my life and I got really drunk. Sounds like they did their job.

#3 Ferndale

Ferndale is well known in the Detroit area for its LGBT population, progressive policies, and apparently, its heavy drinkers.

#2 Mount Clemens

Up until the early 1920s, Mount Clemens was known as "Bath City" due to its many bath houses and fine hotels. Now they're known as the #2 drunkest city in Michigan...well done.

#1 Traverse City

Traverse City is home to the Cherry Fest and the most drunks in the entire state of Michigan. Congrats to all the hard-working drinkers that helped put Traverse City at #1.

This list was put together using actual data but it was also done for fun. If you're not happy with the results, try (drink) harder.
