Driving Dort Highway headed toward Grand Blanc, you tend to notice when something looks different -- especially cleaner -- along your way.

A property just south of the old Playland property has been somewhat industrial with heavy machinery for a long time. That appears to be changing.

What's happening on Dort Highway?

Previously, the property looked like this:

Driving through the area today, there's a noticeable difference next to B & A Autoport.

There's quite a pile of debris.

If you're looking at the property straight on, the next picture is looking immediately to the left. There's another small pile of dirt just to the left of the building.

On the opposite side of B & A Autoport is the old Playland property, which Grand Blanc Township scooped up in a hurry back in 2018, according to MLive. The plan with that property is build another fire station and building for the Department of Public Works.

It's not clear if the clean-up area is related to the expansion or someone preparing the property for possible sale or improvements.

If you're directionally challenged (like me) this is near "the point" in Grand Blanc. It's technically Grand Blanc Township, but many of the businesses and homes have Flint (48507) addresses.

Either way, that stretch of Dort Highway (and many miles northward) could certainly use some reinvestment & sprucing up. That's not a knock on anyone running a business there. Rather, it presents endless opportunity to reimagine what miles of property along M-54 could be.

Looking Back at the Last Days of Beloved Playland in Flint, MI

Playland originally started in Flint off Pasadena. Then, in the early 1980s moved toward Grand Blanc at 5290 Dort Hwy in Flint right behind Grand Blanc Township Offices. It was closed for good in 2018.
