Genesee County Liquor Spending Hits $75M, Here’s Where It’s Going

When we saw this story, it instantly felt like something the Flint area could pull off. Genesee County just ranked fifth in the entire state for liquor spending, and we’re talking about nearly 75 million dollars in 2025 alone. That’s actually down a little bit from the year before, but still, 75 million.

But here’s the thing, this isn’t even what people are buying at the bar or at the register, this is just what the bars and stores are stocking up on. So if anything, this is just the warm-up.

And when you break it down, most of that is coming from stores, not bars. So let’s not pretend it’s all nights out. A lot of that is 'we’ll just grab a bottle and stay in.'

Where Flint Area Residents Are Buying the Most Liquor

Also, no surprise here, Costco in Mundy Township is leading the charge. Over 2 million dollars in liquor just from that one location, according to MLive. I mean, of course. You go in for paper towels and somehow leave with a 40 pound bottle of something.

Fenton shows up strong too, with RailYard topping the bar list. Foutch’s over in Flint Township is right there behind them. So yeah, we’re spreading it out pretty evenly across the county.

How Much Genesee County Adults Spend on Liquor Each Year

Per person, we’re hovering right around 250 bucks a year per adult on liquor alone. Not beer, not wine, just liquor.

So yeah, technically spending is down a little bit. But let’s not kid ourselves, we’re still very much doing our part here in Genesee County. But honestly, fifth place? Feels like we could try harder.
