The Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed it was what they call a “high-load hit,” which typically means a vehicle that was too tall didn’t quite clear the bridge. It doesn’t take much for something like that to cause major headaches, especially on one of Genesee County’s busiest stretches of highway. Thankfully, all lanes were reopened shortly before 12:30 p.m., but the story doesn’t end there.

MDOT Closes Lane for Detailed Bridge Inspection

MDOT crews were back out on the scene to take a much closer look at the bridge. From 9 a.m. until noon today, the right lane of southbound I-75 at the Coldwater Road overpass was closed so inspectors could perform a detailed bridge inspection. That’s standard procedure after a hit like this.
